Thanks Romann.
Contrary to popular opinion, l'm not against any particular technology.
E.g. Coal, oil , gas and nuclear has been very good to the world in the past.
The scientists tell us that burning fossil fuel is problematic hence we need to find alternatives. And we need to do it asap.
Nuclear has it's place. ln countries that have long established nuclear systems and a shortage of renewable options it is a better option than coal for the above reason.
Hopefully one day thorium reactors will become mainstream . My understanding is they have a long way to go. Happy to be corrected on that.
Even more hopefully , commercial fusion will become available down the track. Wouldn't that be great ?
My opposition to nuclear power , apart from bomb making , is that it isn't required where there is a much better alternative.
E.g. Australia.
Nuclear power doesn't make sense on any level for Australia.
Crazy long build times.
Huge costs.
Security .
Water use.
Location issues .
Safety.
Competition with renewables .
Etc.
We need an alternative to fossil fuel today. Something that can be built relatively quickly with today's technology . Today. Not in 10 years or 20 years.
Australia has huge renewable resources and the space to utilize them . Renewables are cheaper by any metric. They don't need high security. A widely distributed renewable energy grid is far more flexible and reliable than a baseload one. There is no toxic waste for thousands of years. They can be placed almost anywhere unlike nuclear. Etc.
That's why l'm an advocate for renewable energy for Australia.
