BAYOU CORNE — Assumption Parish officials said Saturday they discovered that powerful underground forces unleashed by formation of an acre-sized swampland sinkhole had bent and shifted an adjacent 36-inch natural gas pipeline.

As a result, the officials said, they plan to shut down traffic starting at 6 p.m. Saturday over a four-mile stretch of La. 70 South in the Pierre Part and Bayou Corne communities...
