depends on the length of core and how much detail analysis they want to do on it. If they want to do the full monty including mineralogy it could easily take a couple of months or more. On the other hand if they just wanted to get a quick spot indication of poroperm and possible susceptibility to formation damage I would have thought one could get at least a qualitative idea in a week or so (once the core gets to the lab of course). For example take a small sample, put it under a microscope and drop a small drop of HC on it. If it soaks in the sample is permeable. What puzzles me is why, when the coring had exposed a new intersection of the formation that had not been subject to prolonged exposure to drilling fluids and therefore with minimal chances for damage, that some wireline RFT sampling and pressure measurements were not taken. This in itself could have given a pretty good indication of the situation without interminable core analysis.
