I was referring to 'internet' in terms of adoption rate and yes it did have competitors paper mail, paper books, land line and bricks/mortar stores instead of (e-commerce). If people didn't not see the value and/or it was too difficult to access digital connected data, it may never be what it is today.

To me crypto-currency is on a similar path which it will need some regulation and more simplicity to become mainstream.
Crypto-currency will never become mainstream and without some order, security and trust.

I do believe that both traditional currencies and crypto can co-exist.

Only time will tell and it will be an interesting next few years.
