    Being an engineer in an EPCM company myself, that deals with base metals and coal, people used to run entire plants with nothing more than temperature and pressure sensors.

    Most times thats all you need and any/if not all electronic components are pre-made with the exception of a few (Local control stations, Motor control centres etc) which are normally fabricated in 8-10 weeks for a full size plant (possibly 10-12 for delivery I have never built in malaysia).

    I wouldn't call any of them extremely complex electrical systems though, maybe rare earth plants have something that normal plants dont have... but I doubt it, all their unit operations seem pretty standard.

    Just for reference, I have worked in Alumina refining, alumina smelting, coal pre plants, nickel, lead and zinc. Mostly in QLD but stints in indonesia and WA.
