NZ big increase in toddler deaths

NZStats website says 249 kids died in 2022. Iinfant and toddler deaths per year in NZ
five year average is 293
ten year average is 303
twenty year average is 339

But an Official Information Request says 608 infants and toddlers died in 2022. The OIR has been acknowledged as correct and the website as an error. (still not fixed btw)

In 2022 there was an increase of 80-107% over mid and long run year averages in the deaths of babies and young kids.

Why? What happened in 2022 to NZ kids that so many more would die?
