Bali needs the labour, there are not enough Balinese to fill the positions. Most of the people you see working in restaurants, hotels, maintenance, spas etc are Muslims from other parts of Indonesia. At Idul Fitri they all go home and you can fire a cannon through Denpasar. They come to Bali or 2 reasons. 1/. Their employment prospects are zero where they come from and they desperately need the money. They don't really care about Bali and it's culture. OR 2/. They are escaping the oppression of Islam in their home town and enjoying the freedom that Bali offers. For women in particular, the Hijab comes off at the border and is not put back on until they return home to Sumatra or Java or wherever.
