We however highlight wars and atrocities but looking at the history of the world for the last 5000 years there are mostly peaceful times with relatively short bursts of violence.
Nowadays we get more information within a few hours from anywhere around the world and in the past much of what happened was already filtered out and cleaned-up before the rest of the world got to know about what happened.
