WELLINGTON, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Support for New Zealand's opposition Labour party jumped to overtake that of the National Party, threatening its decade-long hold on power, a poll released on the website of the 1 News broadcaster showed on Thursday.
National fell three points to 41 percent, its lowest poll result since 2005, while support for the newly invigorated Labour party jumped six points to 43 percent, after a change in leadership boosted the party's chances in the Sept. 23 election.
That was the highest support in the poll for Labour since 2006.
The New Zealand dollarfell from $0.7169 to $0.7148, an almost-three month low, after the poll result was released.
Support for the nationalist NZ First Party, which either party will likely need to form a coalition government, fell two points to 8 percent.
