When we travelled NZ a few years back it was explained that NZ fuel costs a very high but registration fees are much lower. Designed to make the road user pay per km travelled instead of hitting granny with high registration for granny driving 10km a week to shops/church. This electric vehicle tax per km is simply to make up for low registration fees. The other alternative would have been to slap higher reg fees on electrics.
Drive the roads...............then pay for their construction and upkeep.
