    The Sun-Herald understands that the government is aware of the possibility of Chinese buyers.
    But a government source said there was reason for hope that Cubbie's water would become a government asset soon because it was highly unlikely that the foreign ownership deal would be approved.
    Covering 93,000 hectares over three properties, Cubbie Station's massive water storage dams - with a 539-billion-litre capacity, more than Sydney Harbour - are full after record rainfall.
    The cotton company has just started harvesting a 220,000-hectare crop, expected to be worth about $150 million.
