Sadly, NZ does have a major water quality problem nowadays and the explosion in dairying (read: overstocking, fertiliser overuse and poor effluent management) is largely to blame.
Interestingly, I contacted Fluence (Emefcy back then) about this very problem and the opportunity I saw for MABR here in NZ and the reply (from Ross Kennedy, I think) was that dairy effluent is too concentrated for MABR. Which seems at odds with the article on FLC's website. Perhaps the newer iterations of their tech can now handle it? I don't know, but here in NZ there is a massive opportunity for a company like FLC and, now that there is a growing public backlash against the degradation of our water resources, I think FLC should start establishing a beachhead here.
There is also a big opportunity for SUBRE in NZ as a number of local wastewater treatment plants are obsolete and in need of upgrade or replacement. One on the South Island west coast was destroyed by a storm in 2016. At the time I saw the opportunity for FLC/EMC and tried to make each side aware of the other, but neither FLC/EMC nor the local council replied.
Local politics and "jobs for the boys" play a part, I think. Sometimes it can take the incumbents a long time to appreciate that a new way of doing things can actually be better and cheaper. A job for FLC's PR dept.
