BHP has been exploring, then evaluating, Oak Dam (West) for a few years now and we have had some information provided to us from time to time. BHP have provided to us info relevant to its scale within a $200B market cap company. If it was being evaluated by a $200M market cap company we would have had a dozen (or two dozen) site-specific reports by now. Nothing is wrong or illegal or inappropriate here - I am just making the point about how little we investors actually know about Oak Dam. Key matters seem to be: - is it a huge resource? - are grades sufficiently high for profitable extraction? - how big would the initial investment be to develop it? - what copper price makes it profitable? So now we have the middle stages of the BHP takeover of nearby OZL, which, among other benefits, offers some synergies with BHP's Olympic Dam, and possibly Oak Dam. So, I am wondering whether the OZL takeover sheds any positive or negative light on the Oak Dam project/possibility. Any ideas? eg a. Oak Dam won't be first-quartile mine - better to take over OZL b. Oak Dam could work financially, but needs OZL synergies c. Oak Dam geology and grades brilliant and will be highly profitable, OZL probably similar, get it on the cheap now d. other??????
