Oakajee, Northbridge left out of budget
14-May-09 by Rebecca Lawson
Major infrastructure projects Oakajee port and the Northbridge link have been left out of this year's state budget, despite receiving federal budget allocations this week.
Treasurer Troy Buswell said the exclusion of both projects was due to the state budget numbers being finalised before the federal budget was unveiled.
The federal government this week allocated $339 million towards the development of the Oakajee port and $236 million for the sinking of the Northbridge rail line and upgrade of the Wellington Street bus station.
Mr Buswell today said the government is committed to injecting $339 million towards Oakajee, however was less clear the financial commitment to the Northbridge link.
He said more work needed to be done on the Northbridge project, which will re-connect the suburb with Perth city.
Mr Buswell added that state commitment for the project could be up to $200 million.
The state budget has allocated a record $8.3 billion for an asset investment program.
