Three foundation customers have been obtained to underpin the proposed Oakajee deepwater port in Western Australia.

The iron ore exporters Sinosteel Midwest Corporation, Karara Mining and Crosslands Resources have signed memorandums of understanding with the Murchison Metals and Mitsubishi Development joint venture, undertaking to use rail facilities and the port itself. The mid-west region is being hailed as Australia�s newest iron-ore province. The A$4bn (US$3.6bn) project should begin construction next year and is targeted to handle its first ore shipments from the initial two berths in 2014
