If the US had done something like this 3 or 4 decades ago we might have had a peaceful, stable Middle East with the Palestinian and Israelis living together side by side in harmony, IMO! The US was in a position then to bang the two heads together for a just settlement.
I suspect it is too little too late now. Do not forget what happened to Rabin - there were elements in Israel who wanted Palestinian land - not peace!!!!
