One problem with a nut job getting power is they taint the ideology they push.
Not all nationalistic policies are bad, same as not all socialist, far left, far right or other ideologies are all bad or good.
Some points have merit in different degrees and at different times, and some points are just dim-witted, usually like the people that are fixed on only one world view based on an ideology.

Canada should build a wall to stop the yanks getting in. Yanks will be trying to illegally cross the border to access health care.
The wall will only need to be built low as the yanks wont be able to climb very high due to bad lungs from coal dust after they get their jobs back.
