    Being free to say something includes the freedom to be told that what you say is kind of weird.
    In context, absolutely the bible as a book and set of beliefs is to be respected. No different to all the other Holy Books, such as the Koran. In context, they all deserve to be respected.
    Doesn't mean everyone has to agree with every single passage in them.
