If climate scientists are so technically competent they would be precise about the words heat and heating. In thermodynamics heat has a specific definition; heat = transfer of thermal energy (i.e. a 'process' not a 'state'). Thus they should be talking about ocean warming (increase in temp) caused by heating (thermal energy transferring) from the atmosphere. Therefore it is technically incorrect of Prof Allan to refer to "... the excess heat of global warming ..." when he means excess thermal energy.
