The Chinese government, it's estimated have invested US$230 Billion in developing their EV industry, yes they are miles ahead. They won't want to unwind that and throw that kind of investment out with the bathwater. Lithium demand is here to stay and its not only China. Just look at initiatives by various governments
Near term, lithium demand has undershot expectations. Supply has expanded faster than expected. Incentives to buy EVS have been reduced. The Chinese's consumer is hibernating somewhat. Lithium processors are now having to cut back production, deferring expansion plans , shuttering mines etc. The news flow has been negative to match the reality of the supply demand situation. Resulting in lithium shares now overreacting to the downside making capital to expand difficult to acquire, disincentivising investment, and positioning some low cost of production producers in a good position to recover from bargain basement share prices if they can weather the storm. others won't make it!
Perhaps as supply crimps over the next few quarters and demand returns these depressed share prices will be seen as bargains as we look in the rear view mirror.
EV and battery storage growth is still strong and current lithium pricing conditions are a significant barrier to investment in processing or mining. While manufacturing input costs reduce because of depressed prices products will become more affordable and re stimulate demand. Things will turn, when, nobody knows.
GLN has a high grade long life asset with a low cost of production offering that will attract investment ahead of others that don't have those attributes. Nobody is more aware of that than JP and his team. They are not incentivised to sell the farm cheap to a bunch of cowboys that didn't even do their DD let alone sign a confidentiality agreement? How the heck could they get access to sufficient relevant information to be able to make an informed decision?
Does GLN need to rush development under current conditions? Does GLN need to be panicked into accepting a cheeky opportunistic low ball offers for a large world class assets? They have stated they are in negotiations with several parties?
Does GLN have the wheels to weather the storm?
Why have the directors recently been buying shares on market at prices multiples higher than the current price?
Put a few in the bottom draw.
