No court has ordered the release of Trump's tax returns. In the absence of such an order no one has the authority to release them. To do so is a criminal action by someone.
If they were dropped anominously into the NYT's letter box they can plead not guilty by precedent but if they paid someone to procure them NYT is on dodgy ground. If NYT is not guilty, nor is Assange.
