Shares in your company are subject to a trading halt or suspension

Shares you hold may be subject to a trading halt or suspension. This can occur because:

the company has asked for a trading halt and the ASX has granted the trading halt. For example, the company could ask for this if they feel the market is uninformed or confused over the value of the shares such as when an announcement of price sensitive information is pending; or
the stock exchange has suspended trading because the company has not complied with its disclosure obligations, or has breached some other listing rule, or to prevent a disorderly or uninformed market.
    Finding out what's happening
You can find out what is happening to the company by:
contacting the company and asking their investor relations officer what is happening. If it is a trading halt you can ask when they expect to be in a position to request lifting of the trading halt. If it is a suspension you can ask what steps they are taking to resolve the issue that lead to the suspension of trading; and
visiting the ASX website and reading the company's announcements to the market.
    Selling your shares
You can privately sell your shares to somebody else in an off market contract. However it would be very difficult to decide on a reasonable price of the shares if the market is not trading in those shares. If the reason for the trading halt or suspension is because the market is uninformed or disorderly, it would be very risky to sell before trading is reinstated. The buyer should send information about the change of ownership of the shares to the share register of the company.
