    Unfortunatley this can happen as a result of untrained or lazy salespeople, shifty salespeople, a vendor who is unable to make up their minds, in other words any one of as number of reasons which are outside your control.
    It is therefore in your own intereste to impose a time limit on the offer so as to retain some control. This time is dependant upon where the vendor lives/is or if there is more than one vendor.
    The worst aspect is that when your offer goes in the agent phones everyone who has looked at the house and tries to get a better offer from them and in effect starts a bidding war.
    Also it is always the best procedure to put the offer in writing so that after a decision is arrived at the vendor/s can not change their minds and ask for more money at a later time.
