Yes it is.
Option to purchase is widely used for all types of asset transactions. I am currently leasing an asset on an option to purchase for which they paid me and option fee upfront for a pre-agreed future price. Win/Win situation in my case.
Important note to anyone thinking of taking up this option. You must receive the option funds upfront to use at your free will, the option fee MUST be non-refundable, have the agreement in writing and witnessed preferably by a solicitor. In this arrangement, there must be a future close off date, this should not be an open ended option. Without knowing all of the details any other arrangement is of no benefit to you.
I am not saying this is good or bad in this case or advising anyone to take this up. But if you are not sure I would get professional advice before taking this up. If I held APG I wouldn't.
