Hi Zog, any laser enrichment process needs a selective excitation step as a first step. The “lambda 1” photons selectively excite the desired isotopic species, followed by lambda 2 and 3 for further vibrational excitation, until the excited isotope is harvested by some novel process. Snyder’s article does actually refer to this selective step in the sentence “Photons with wavelengths of 16 μm provide the 0.08 eV energy required to excite the ν3 vibrational mode of 235UF6”.
