Picking companies isn't easy, if you go to the daytraders forums, some of them on there do very good research, as they want to reduce their risks as much as possible. Just try to avoid the hyperbole.
I would still check things like shares on issue, market capitalisation and cash on hand.

Trying to make money on here because you really "need" it is not a good position to be in.

You need to have the right set of emotional "tools" to do well consistently in the markets, they are more important than intelligence, in my opinion.
