This is great news for heart failure patients.
There are maybe a couple hundred thousand or more HF patients waiting for a heart transplant at any point in time.
There are only around 5,000 hearts available for transplant each year. Being able to transplant hearts that have stopped beating is expected to increase the number of hearts available for transplant by around 30% to say 6,500 hearts available for transplant per year.
With Ross Swift, in the UK, C-Pulse has shown it is viable as a bridge to transplant.
More transplants available, more bridges needed.
This new technology to make more transplant hearts available can only be good for C-Pulse.
Even if it were not, an additional 1,500 transplant hearts is hardly going to seriously affect C-Pulse share of its very large target market.
