Unfortunately, I think it's going to take more than a few submarines to counter the Chinese in the South China Sea. China will push until it's pushed-back on. That includes Taiwan. Next point of global war is "South China Sea". 20 years ago I said water would replace semiconductors and "plastics", from the The Graduate. Unfortunately, it's proving to be both potable water in the U.S. and salt water in the seas "above" Australia.
