Demand for child protection in the NT has increased by 79 % in the past 2 years ..theoz reports
CHILD protection authorities in the Northern Territory are being overwhelmed by a "tsunami of need", an inquiry has found.
A report delivered to NT chief minister Paul Henderson today said the inquiry had uncovered an ?enormous and chronic backlog of investigations?, with nearly 1000 children identified as at risk having received no support or investigation.
The report blames chronic housing shortages, overcrowding, chronic unemployment, and health and education issues for the problems swamping child protection authorities.
