In the long run you are correct obviously & the wider economy will benefit.
However what is scaring everyone & markets is that there is a massive amount of debt associated with the energy industry that is very likely to default. Energy is also a big employer in the US & there will be considerable job losses.
But the real issue is the debt which is estimated to be close to a trillion dollars in the US alone plus the derivatives that go with it & what else that will impact. Banks, service providers to name a few.
