I never said they were a great airline to fly, however have you ever flown Perth to Brisbane with Virgin..........

You will call Qantas deluxe after that experience. Most budget airlines are far worse.

Fuel obviously hurt the bottom line, however per seat the cost is not that enormous. surcharges always cover it quite handsomely. The bottom line actually increases each time the surcharge is put up. They are always quicker in putting it up then down.

In the next few year Qantas will have one of the more modern fleets, which are more fuel efficient.

It always amazes me how well they withstand all threats like competing airlines, 9/11, SARS etc. They constantly have been managing increases in passenger numbers and numbers of seats taken on each plane.

Airlines are always a risk, but I am very happy with the returns I made, increase share price, special dividends etc. Mind you playing the oilers, mining and U stocks is more fun.
