MADRID, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Spanish tech and defence firm Indra said on Thursday it had won an 18 million euro ($21.9 million) contract from Portugal to install a radar system on the island of Madeira.
The deal also includes an option for three more radar systems for the Azores islands in the mid-Atlantic.
The radar, called Lanza 3D and originally designed by Indra for the Spanish armed forces, fits with NATO specifications, the firm said in a statement.
U.S. giant Lockheed Martin Corp. , French-U.S joint venture Thales Raytheon Systems and Alenia Marconi Systems -- a joint venture of Britain's BAE Systems and Italy's Finmeccanica -- lost out to Indra, the Spanish company said.
