Discussion focussed on transport systems in the time 2024 and beyond, possibility was mentioned that (price)effects related to the impending oil shortfall may be seen as early as 2006.

"Mark Colvin/PM: If you think you’re paying too much at the petrol bowser - brace yourself. An expert from one of the most oil rich countries in the world says the price per litre could soon more than double and he says that’s his conservative estimate. Dr. Ali Bakhtiari is Senior Planning Expert with the National Iranian Oil Company.

Ali Bakhtiari: We are reaching the limits of the planet very soon, we can’t produce much more oil than we are producing today. I am talking about 2 to 3 years from now.

Robyn Williams: Two or three years?

Ali Bakhtiari: Yes, 2006 or 2007. The oil fields cannot produce enough oil anymore.

Bruce Robinson: One of the other problems is all the decisions makers in various departments, state, federal/local government all have companies cars with free petrol and they only think with a windscreen shape view of the world, and sadly the intelligence failure that’s coming up is the intelligence to consider the big role over the oil the oil depletion problem."
