Interesting fact from the US, and maybe similar here?

In response to the last high oil price period of the late 70's/early 80's the average consumer vehicle weight declined from 1800 kg to 1400kg. That is they sold their yank tanks and bought 4 cylinder cars.

In the last 5 years this has increased back up to 1800kg as SUV's (4WD in english) have become the mode of choice.
