IMO the AUD will rally as it is linked to commodities. Commodities price falls AUD falls. Commodities go up AUD goes up. So our dollar should cushion us from a price spike in petrol.
Oh and by the way, whilst our dollar will be going up with oil and other commodities I expect the US dollar to be going DOWN because it is linked to trillions of dollar worth of DEBT.
