I dont think of energy the same as other commodities. My own view is that if there has been any manipulation of the oil price in recent months, then it has been upwards. My pet conspiracy theory is that Western Governments want to keep the oil price at a level that will lead to heavy investment in synthetics, a strategy that will eventually pay off, leaving the world with cheap oil for a long time. People mention market forces, but remember that in many parts of the world, huge petrol taxes do that already.
