    So canola is a fertilizer guzzler too! It needs more fert than wheat. About 170kgs urea (equivalent N) for about a 1.5 tonne/ha yield!
    SO that is 113L oil per tonne - ie equivalent oil consumed in inputs used! Canola is 42% oil so you are burning 113 litres of oil to give a net yield of 307 litres of oil. BUT .... then you gotta account for fuel usage (sowing, traffic and goods to market) and pesticide manufacture. That assumes there is no frost damage and no drought! Both of which occur at least 1 in 5 years!
