Does any learned member have any views on the impact of lower oil prices on the climate change lobby's aims for reduction in CO2 emissions. Given that one might expect lower petrol prices to translate into increased fossil fuel consumption will world governments be tempted to increase taxes on fuel to maintain the status quo and at the same time help balance their books where needed?
And are producing nations rushing to sell their oil at any price while it is still worth something as they believe that in the future, to save the world from destruction, world agreement will be reached to phase out fossil fuel (refer 350.org etc)?
Obviously I am not an economist or a political commentator, these are just some simplistic thoughts I had. Possibly already discussed in previous threads - I haven't waded through them all.
