I've been following that story for a little while - is this the actual size of the black market?

China is a black hole - its so hard to get any reliable numbers on anything I imagine some of that 800,000 would be found there and most likely it's not really 800,000 - perhaps half but who knows?

When you look at the world list of oil consumption - plenty of countries on that list that would have a thriving black and or poor reporting - places like:

China, Russia, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Brazil, Ukraine, Algeria, Columbia, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Yemen, Azerbaijan and the list goes on - in fact most likely 90% of African countries would have poor record keeping and a big black market - Central Asian countries etc. and just the above could easily have 800,000 barrels missing from the official records - China alone consumes an estimated over 10mil a day - even a piss ant of a country like North Korea is guessed at around 15,000 barrels a day - Sudan is guessed at 95,000 barrels a day - but who knows?? to many oil producing countries are basically failed states with warlords in control - who knows whats going where?
