The Goshen County Attorney?s Office is investigating an oil spill that occurred in a remote area along County Road 13 last Tuesday.

The spill spread approximately 200-300 gallons of oil along three miles of road and ran into the borrow pit, according to Goshen County Road and Bridge Superintendent Gary Korell.

Korell said emergency management coordinator Shelly Kirchhefer notified him of the spill last Thursday and Sheriff Don Murphy then took samples of the spill.

Kirchhefer also notified the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality of the incident, and Chesapeake Energy Company is doing an internal investigation to find out the source of the spill. The company agreed to bring equipment to clean the spill by blading over the area.

?We had some concerns with livestock, so landowners in the area were notified,? Korell said. ?But it was pretty easily handled and wasn?t too big of a deal.?
