The sad truth is that humans only tend to care about themselves (and people like themselves). The number of times I've heard the pathetic lament: "That could have been me! That could have been my daughter!". How the hell does that incredibly selfish statement sound to the poor family of the deceased girl? They don't consider that, wrapt up as they are in their own self-centeredness. As if the event itself wasn't horrible enough, they have to taint it with their own issues.
