rebel the answer is quite simple many years ago i worked for a very large and well known company that made nuts and potato chips
in the factory they had an individual machine set up with every single brand of chip you could possibly think of with their own wrapping paper or what is known as film
lets call them Browns chips (think of a persons surname beginning with the letter S),Bettys chips etc and Black & Gold
in the supermarket, Browns was and still is the best known brand and they would sell for $3 Bettys $2 and B&G for $1.50
it amazed me that in the supermarket i would hear people say we only buy Browns because they are best,meantime i felt like saying @#@ they are all made in the same factory !
at the end of the day supermarkets pay for home branding and they have the stores, manufactureres cannot afford not to give them what they want
anyway having said that Smiths chips are still the number one brand
