Any person with any degree of common sense, when getting out of their, car should look in the mirror first. Not only for the safety of cyclists but for their own safety.A car can easily wipe you out, or you can wipe out the cyclist. It's called courtesy and common sense. We can always hear a vehicle,of course, but we can't always hear a cyclist.

I have noticed a general reluctance of cyclists to ring their bell as they approach pedestrians from behind.I think it's because of their belief (when did this attitude change?)that pedestrians should be prohibited from travelling on shared pathways and are just a nuisance.

Generally speaking, I find female cyclists (I am a male) more courteous than male cyclists. Perhaps, a large number of male cyclists see this sport as a means of getting rid of their excess testosterone!

I wonder to what degree,if any, Lance Armstrong's 'win at all attidude' has had on belligerent male cyclists.
