yep krudd/gillard had 6 years in which to do something about negative gearing - but did nothing. keating scrapped negative gearing in 1985, but scrapped the scrapping in 1987.
there are pros and cons to negative gearing - but generally speaking, interest expense is a genuine business expense - and owning a rental property, is a business
