It's not that generic, it's a statement about the chemicals industry.
But it's not just about the chemistry industry. They are dealing with a huge expansive number of industries and each of those has their specific needs and requirements and quirks. You simplify the argument far too much. What they are doing is actually very complex in both technology and in application and process.
