This site is a treasure trove.

I just watched the second short film 'Women driving in the UK[1937] about the pre war Ford 8.
I had a 1939 Ford 8. I can still remember the registration DOU 101 and it cost me 30 pounds with 30,000 miles on the clock. Side valve engine, 3 speed with no syncro on 1st gear. Cable brakes, spring steel bumpers and as it reminded me, boot access was from the inside.
Men were men in those days and everyone smoked everywhere. Feminists would have this one X rated.
If you stay with it while they tour the UK you will see way over the top driving conditions to suggest it could handle anything you threw at it. Watch the speedo after running in as it climbs to almost 35mph!

I loved my Ford 8. The rings were knackered from being left unused for some time but I bought a brand new genuine factory Ford 8 engine in a packing case for a 'fiver' at a wreckers. He also had several Ford Pilot V8's also a fiver each.
With that new engine fitted and the exhaust coming out on the passenger side in front of the back wheel, it sounded sensational at the time and could just do 55mph flat out.

Lots of nostalgic stuff here for those interested.
