The stats don't back that up...and due to the ageing population it's only going to get worse. It's become noticeably more prevalent where older drivers are the cause of what seems like silly accidents, sadly some are fatal as per previous post. There's no excuses for reversing out of a car park and confusing the accelerator for the break and freezing. My old man when 82 drove through the back brick wall of his garage into the lounge room, it still didn't twig that maybe he should hang up his keys.
Over forties involved in most fatalities
"New South Wales Centre for Road Safety executive director, Bernard Carlon, said Dr Punch's figures were not surprising.
Mr Carlon said in New South Wales there had been a 0.7 per cent per annum increase in 65-74-year-olds involved in fatal accidents, and a two per cent increase in the 75-plus age group.
Meanwhile, he said there had been a two per cent decrease in younger driver fatalities, and 2017 was the first time drivers aged between 40 and 49 were the group most represented in fatal crashes.
"We've actually been very successful in that we've halved the number of fatal crashes involving 17-25-year-olds over the last 10 years," Mr Carlon said."
