I grew up in Shepparton. The Goulburn River and it's tributaries like the Broken river were pristine back then. Even the irrigation channels were good for a swim. I recall being able to see metres under water and diving off tractor inner tubes with my brothers collecting fresh water muscles from the sandy river beds. European Carp and industry have since ruined those heady days.
