    I too am PA I remember putting out a tin Billycan for the milkman to fill from the back of his horse drawn cart-One morning dad caught the milko topping up our billy from our garden tap--That's the 1940's when we used to go to school bare footed especially on rainy days to save our shoes
    Also as late as the 1980's on Warrawee station on Sydney's North Shore the newsagent left a pile of newspapers each morning and a box for the commuters to put in the cost of their news paper and take out their change as required.
