Olympics, who paid?

Without taking away from individual performances,what benefits did Australian athletes bring to me as an ordinary taxpayer .I would like to see a breakdown of what money has been spent on flights, accommodation,AIS training , support staff,There are people homeless, pensioners not eating properly,,schools and hospitals in crisis,but it's ok and desirable to fund the building of a sporting elite.Another thing,they are not"heroes".
